Pizza Bread
History: This is an update to Pizza Bread (2001-10-30).
Pizza bread is a wonderful, simple meal that almost everyone loves. Fresh crusty bread and homemade sauce combine to make this the perfect dish. Originally served as part of Pizza Bread.
Ingredients
- ½ loaf fresh baguette bread (sliced horizontally)
- ½ cup leftover pizza sauce
- 2 ounces mozzarella cheese (sliced)
- 1 tablespoon pecorino romano cheese (grated)
- red pepper flakes
- dried oregano
Instructions
We pre-heat the oven to 450 degrees. In addition to slicing the bread lengthwise, we also cut both the top and bottom slices in half to make the preparation a little easier. We add just enough sauce to cover the bread, but not enough to create clumps of sauce. On each chunk of bread, we add some slices of mozzarella cheese.
We put each of the pizza breads onto a cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes, until the cheese is bubbling and beginning to brown. We sprinkle the romano cheese over the slices and serve with pepper flakes and oregano.
