Jalapeno Lime Tartar Sauce

Jalapeno Lime Tartar Sauce

2002-08-28 5 5 mayonnaise, jalapeno, onion, lime, cilantro dinnerfirst coursesauce

This is a delicious sauce for fried fish and seafood. We were inspired to purchase pickled jalapenos from Sara Moulton. These are available right near the pickles in the grocery store. We find our first use for them tonight in a variation on a traditional tartar sauce. Originally served as part of Clam Strips and Boiled Red Potatoes.

Tools & Appliances

  • Bowl
  • Cutting Board

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup light mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon pickled slices jalapeno (drained and chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon red onion (peeled and minced)
  • 1 large lime
  • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro (cleaned and chopped)

Instructions

We combine the mayo, jalapeno, and red onion in a medium bowl. We rinse our lime and cut it in half. We squeeze a lime half into a measuring cup, yielding 1 tablespoon. We add this to the bowl with the cilantro and refrigerate the sauce covered until we are ready to serve. We slice the remaining lime half for garnish with the meal.
